Timber Oak Door
at Greys Inn

Timber Oak Door
Grays inn faced a significant challenge with very old, decayed doors that had suffered from years of neglect and rot. The doors, which had also sustained damage over time, needed replacement. However, being part of a listed building, it was essential to replace them with exact replicas to comply with heritage preservation requirements.
To address this unique challenge, we developed and implemented the following solution:
Custom Fabrication of Exact Replica Doors
- We meticulously crafted custom-made doors to serve as exact replicas of the originals. This approach ensured that the new doors matched the historical and architectural integrity of the listed building.
Material Selection – American Oak
- The doors were fabricated using American Oak, the same material as the original doors. This choice not only adhered to the listed building regulations but also guaranteed durability and a timeless aesthetic that matched the existing structure.
Maintaining Original Design and Shape
- Every detail of the original doors. including their shape and design elements, was replicated with precision. This careful attention to detail ensured that the new doors seamlessly blended with the building’s historic character, preserving its authenticity.
The project successfully restored the decayed doors with custom-made replicas that honoured the heritage and aesthetic of the listed building. The use of American Oak and faithful reproduction of the original design ensured that the replacement doors met all conservation requirements while providing a durable, long-lasting solution. This restoration not only preserved the building’s historical significance but also enhanced its overall appearance, maintaining the integrity of the listed structure for future generations.
